How does it work?

While your ship is in port in Ponta Delgada, go exploring on a sightseeing tour with an expert local guide. Explore the fantastic scenery that Sao Miguel Island has to offer. The twin lakes, the blue and the green of  Seven Cities, Fire Lake and Furnas, which is known worldwide for its volcanic activity.

These are places we wish to share with you so that you can enjoy our breathtaking scenery.

Our tours for passengers of cruises on ships that stop on Sao Miguel Island Azores, are personalized and according to your interests and expectations, with a tour offered with you in mind. Please look at the tours that we offer as they are a bit different to our regular tours in order to make sure that enough time is allotted to each. 

Sete Cidades & Lagoa do Fogo.

Sete Cidades means 7 cities and is actually 7 craters. You will see several of them, each one unique.

The most popular view is that from the top of the crater where you can see the twin lakes, blue and green. We will travel along the top of the crater and stop at sites along the way for pictures, then down to the village. There will be a brief stop and then on to see some of the smaller lakes. From there, we will travel along the south coast to Lagoa do Fogo( fire lake).

This is a very large water filled crater, an amazing view. Tour time approximately 5 hours.

After the tour a “special lunch will be offered for those who wish to experience  full Portuguese/Azoren meal including appetizers of local cheeses, sausage and fresh pineapple grown on the island. The main courses will be a local fresh fish and meat dish with local vegetables and salads and a typical Portuguese/Azorean dessert. Local wines and water will also be included in the meal.

Depending on the time of arrival of your ship, the lunch may be put in the middle and then after lunch, the second half of the tour will begin according to weather and timing. The lunch is only 15 minutes from the Port.

Lagoa do Fogo & Furnas

This tour will begin with the trip along the south coast, then on to Vila Franca, the old capital of the Island and small villages along the way with stops at several viewpoints.

Once we arrive in Furnas a stop will be made at the Furnas Crater Lake to see the hotprings and the natural steam vents where the famous dish of the Island” Furnas Stew”, is cooked in the ground for 6 hours and then into the village.

We will travel back along the North shore so that you can see some different sites along the way including the only tea plantation and tea factory of Europe.

After the tour a “special lunch” will be offered for those who wish to experience a full Portuguese/Azorean meal including appetizers of local cheeses, sausage and fresh pineapple grown on the island.

The main courses will be a fish and meat dish with local vegetables and salads and a typical Portuguese dessert. Local wines, water and juices will also be included in the meal.

Furnas Tour

This tour will begin with a trip to a pineapple plantation just outside of Ponta Delgada to see how we grow our very tasty fruits, then along the south coast, stopping at Caloura, a beautiful place with natural swimming pools and then, we will stop at the old capital of the Island, “Vila Franca do Campo”, a small village along the way with stops at several viewpoints.

Once we arrive in Furnas, a stop will be made at the Furnas Crater Lake to see the boiling hotprings and the steam vents where the famous dish of the Island “ Furnas Stew”, is cooked in the ground for 6 hours and then into the village to see a few more hotsprings.

We will travel back along the North shore so that you can see some different sites along the way, including the only tea plantation and factory of europe.

A stop for liqueur tasting where you can taste the local liqueurs can be offered to the group depending on the day of arrival in our port.
